  1. You're not a five year old. The problem with that popular quote is that our knowledge and concepts build on each other. That's also what makes them so powerful. They're not isolated facts. They are abstractions build on abstractions. It's impossible to explain something complex to a five year old, because all of the required background knowledge takes so much time to acquire that in the end, it's no longer a five year old, but a twenty year old. In a way our education system IS explaining sth complex to five year olds - over the span of decades.
