Yeah. The "labour theory of value" is not a socialist thing and not from Marx, it's laid out explicitly in The Wealth of Nations.

Halfway in and this is already extremely cringe. Adam Smith used the metaphor of an "invisible hand" once and his theory of how economies function was accepted by Marx. Smith also explicitly laid out the "labour theory of value". Marx really agreed with Smith about almost everything.

@rubinortiz2311 I'm absolutely an asshole, who would become a pirate. But that doesn't make them any better. They are brutal thieves, who endangered lots of innocents and deprived them of their belongings at the very best.
7
@cuttlealert3062 Lol. How tf are millions of people in worse situations not pirates then? Their only option? You are a clown, you have no idea about Africa to a degree that's almost racist. They no other option than to be pirates - what a cartoonish thing to believe.
7
@Cecilia-ky3uw There's millions of people worse off than those pirates, who haven't even stolen anything in their lives.
7
Lol. They kidnapped people to fund their environmentalism, huh?
6
@delinquente1444 If someone parks wrong in a foreign country, that's not a reason for an invasion. If travelers get repeatedly abducted, that's a reason to secure the roads.
6
If they are "just trying to survive", why are most Somalis not pirates? How do they manage to do that? Pirates don't want to survive, they want to get flitchy rich.
5
>that Adam Smith disliked capitalism Absolute bullshit. "Capitalism" didn't exist as a concept at the time and Adam Smith never said that the state should control the economy or that no one should be able to own businesses, etc.
5
Sounds like you're the "nothing is allowed to exist outside of the government" guy. And you've no clue about what Adam Smith did whatsoever.
4
Then how come millions of people in the same country are doing just fine without being pirates? Desperation my ass. Imagine falling for pirate propaganda of all things.
4
They had to abduct tourists and demand millions in ransom to survive? You seem to think the world is a Disney movie. How do the vast, vast majority of Somalis, who aren't pirates, survive?
4
It's terribly misleading. The labour theory of value is from Smith, not Marx. Marx did not dislike Smith. Hayek wasn't against state welfare.
3
You think literally every single Somali is a pirate? There's millions upon millions worse of than those pirates and they've never stole a thing, let alone abducted people. Besides, if things are "desperate", you shouldn't start a family in the first place.
3
@somebodynamedkage9580 What kind of cartoonish understanding of Somalia is that? You actually seem to believe that every single Somali is a pirate. There's millions upon millions of people worse of than those pirates, who never stole a thing.
3
Your own lack of marketable skills.
3
It's honestly racist that you seem to believe every single person in Somalia is a pirate. Most Somalis never stole a thing. Let alone abducted anyone. And they are doing fine. Pirates are greedy murderers, that's all.
3
I don't really see him quoted a lot. Referenced maybe, but not quoted.
2
@meowtherainbowx4163 He critized charging rents for land that was left completely natural. He didn't hate people for charging rent for the usage of buildings.
2
@ThunderTheBlackShadowKitty How does increasing taxes further lead to less "loopholes"? Billionaires don't all flee to tax havens, because you're not in power and you haven't increased the taxes to an unbearable degree.
2
@E.C.GoMusicandMore >the workers themselves control their workplace without need for a government to do it. Then what are you complaining about? That's already 100% allowed. >Communities that use the resource held in common set rules on how to use it to make sure that it is available to all. That's literally the biggest government conceivable. >After the implementation of capitalist land property, practically every country saw a famine paired with a rise in poverty People owned land since antiquity. In particular during the middle ages land was owned by the aristocracy, church, the king etc, not everyone in common. >socialism being when the government does stuff If it isn't, then why are you trying to take over the government? It is already allowed to own land or businesses or really anything in common. No one is stopping you. But that is not what your ideology is about. Your ideology is about NOT allowing private ownership and preventing private ownership via force. >propaganda against socialism that is easy to believe when it has been hammered into you for your whole life Every teenager gets propaganda against capitalism hammered into their head without having a clue about what capitalism is even supposed to mean. Most don't encounter a critical word against socialism until they grow up. That's how you get all of those 12 yo's being anti-capitalists. >between private, public, and personal property Lol. If I'm a model by toothbrush becomes "private property" and thus verboten, because it's now a means of production.
2
The "drive for infinite expansion" is simply how living things work in general. And morally it's an imperative. No matter where you happen to be: why would you not want more good things to happen in comparison to that?
2
@tekinet7958 Communism was literally defeated during the last century. If anything you're taking copium.
2
@tekinet7958 The greatest communist power collapsed because it's leaders grew tired of having to use tanks to disperse frustrated citizens wanting bananas and Starbucks.
2
@catoflado4977 That lots of births is bad is not Malthusian necessarily. What matters is the ratio of production to consumption. More young adults are good, but more small children bad. The better your technology and development, the more infants and elderly you can afford.
2
@rubinortiz2311 Oh, so it's fine to rape as long as you stop after getting married. Fine...
2
@Jokkkkke That's absolutely based.
1
@spitfire8790 Anarchy is when the government calls itself something like "The Common Wealth", "The General Assembly" or "Chief Buttrape".
1
You can do both.
1
@James-jh3sz Lol if you can simply replace people with ease, why doesn't the state just seize everyone's property and do with it as it pleases? Why even let elections happen if the state can just replace whoever makes problems? Totalitarian regimes of your liking DO suffer from the way they oppress people. They can't just be replaced.
1
How exactly are you surviving without food? Anyways, over here in reality people in capitalist countries are getting fat, while communist regimes cause famines with their command economies.
1
That money wouldn't even last for an hour of your state building adventure.
1
@musafer2648 I don't notice the plastic getting cloudy at all and I don't mind drinking it.
1
Smith didn't say it can be calculated and he didn't say that it's only based on time. It's based on how much it sucks to do the job. How much of your "leisure" you have to sacrifice to make an object.
1
Smith and Marx agree on the labour theory of value, but the labour theory of value is not that you can practically measure the value of any particular thing objectively, it's that value in general is derived from people's efforts.
1
@kakahass8845 It's not even a system. It's just that common sense things like owning stuff and trading stuff are not prohibited by the government. People say they're against capitalism and have no clue what specifically they're actually against.
1
That's just the framing of the video, lol.
1
You can be both.
1
As it should. Friedman had the pleasure of seeing Hayek eat shit and vice versa. This is rightly reflected in the GDP.
1
Not really, but people respect him as an economist and not as a historian.
1
Lol. People don't even want to fight the Taliban - how are you gonna persuade them to build some artificial nation in Somalia? You make it sound like most Somalis are pirates. They aren't. There is no "need". Pirates are just greedy twats.
1
I had no idea that people actually transport water over the ocean. Wouldn't it be easy to analyze the water in Fiji and mix it locally?
