Most depressed people already feel "responsible" for their emotions. The effect is that they get even more sad. Nothing good comes from that mindset. Instead you need to cultivate beginner's mind. Not guilt, but acceptance needs to guide the process.

Precisely. Feeling really, really responsible never leads anywhere good. In the best case it leads to pride and selfishness. In the worst it leads to shame, self loathing, isolation. Happiness is a skill, not something you will into existence by the brutal force of your dissatisfaction.

The mindset of feeling responsible for ones emotions already exists and it's one of the main sources of depression. It leads into a vicious cycle of sadness and guilt: "Why can't I just be happy?".

This mindset is the essence of depression. I'm feeling bad - that is my fault - therefore I'm feeling bad - therefore I'm feeling guilty - and so on.

Instead of harking on about "responsibility" she should say how precisely one can manipulate his emotions. As it stands all she has done is making sad people feel sad AND guilty about it.

You missed the entire point of the talk. Congratulations on being able to hide your feelings just like every other adult human.
