  18. I would want to examine/create sth like that, but I also think that 90% of what's under the label is compulsive performance art and people sort of disassociating with certain memories. It would be cool if you could totally lock away some memories and access them at strategic points. That would also have interesting military applications.

  21. Of course there is a feedback cycle. That's one of the complications with psychological problems. That you get into a role. Like me procrastinating at the moment. I'm wasting time, but I'm also wasting more time since I put myself into the role of a time-waster. There is a real information hazard to diagnosis. But there is also a blessing to it, because diagnosis also helps you work against the undesriable psychological circumstance.

  26. I witnessed someone like that for three minutes. I would have killed that woman for her daughter's sake right there on the spot. I was shaking with anger so badly that I couldn't continue my work. I didn't confront her, because I'm a good person. I confronted her, because the physical reaction of my body to the bs she put her daughter through was too bad to ignore. She tried to make it look like I had offended her daughter as she moved away.

  34. Psychological disorders are really not that clear cut and they have all sorts of feedback mechanisms. Acting out a disease, thinking you have a disease and having the disease are all pretty closely related. It won't break your arm if you think you have a broken arm, but if you think you are bipolar, your brain can easily pick up on that and actually produce that pattern. So we should be aware of a sort of information hazard that's unavoidable in diagnosis.

  48. Because they are completely different. Someone wil cancer or diabetes will agree with the diagnosis and want to get rid of those things. But someone with what is to you a mental condition might very well want to continue like that and from his perspective you might be the crazy one. By medicalizing different outlooks, you can also avoid ever having to question yourself, avoiding debate by simply "curing" your political opponents instead.
