  13. >>that saying an entire theist demographic is "immune to knowledge" would be ignorant in and of itself<< They are not of course. No religious person is altogether consumed by his religion. Noone fully buys into the dogma. Not even the people from the WBC, not even the Taliban or the Islamic State leaders. >>One does not have to be ignorant to believe in dogma.<< I'm not talking about people believing lies, because they are ignorant, but about lasting ignorance being created by the failure of acknowledging ones own ignorance. I agreed with Derek that acknowledging your lack of knowledge on a topic, or the falsehood of what you believed to be true, is essential to learning. >>I also know many intelligent, open minded Christians<< And you apparently think that a good thing? Then you agree that dogmatism is not a good thing? Then you agree that Christianity is not a good thing? I believe that you have deceived yourself into the assumption that everything good about someones character must come from the religion of his parents, while everything bad has nothing to do with it. You must begin to make the distinction between single individuals, who come from Christian families, and the religion itself. >>if you are a person who admires the fields of STEM, I implore you to release your prejudices<< Now that is just an idiotic thing to say. Science, technology, engineering and mathematics are about sound reasoning and empiricism. If I "admire" them, I must necessarily be against their opposition: dogmatism, authoritarian thought. It is not "prejudice" to defend the open quest for knowledge. >>Every opinion you have, try to disprove it<< Please tell that to your Christian friends, not to someone, who has done just this and consequently shaken off faith.
