Yes, they should worry more about grades and academic accomplishments than the name of the institution they are part of.

That's the problem with looking at the institution someone is coming from rather than their grades and academic accomplishments.

@sikheing5166 It's far more important where you get your Master's degree since it'll be closer to actual research. If you do your Master's at a prolific group you can start your PhD right there.

Yeah it's a relic of the early 20th century. Universities should be about education and research, not sports.

I'd be super salty if my grades counted for less because my school is less expensive.

College admissions staff is idiots. They look at your hobbies and athletic accomplishments rather than your academic interests and abilities. It's a relic of early 20th century obsession with sports in universities.

You don't go to those colleges for a better education, you go there to meet smart people and to qualify yourself for certain Masters programs and jobs.

No, because someone, who is more likely to get accepted to one is also more likely to get accepted to the others. 10% isn't that bad and 80% of the rejected probably don't qualify at all.

Yeah, you go there for meeting smart people, not for a better education.

Not everyone wants to be a doctor. If you don't have academic ambitions of course you don't need contact with researchers.
