  2. Yeah, one thing is helpful, the other a blight on human existence and a great threat going forwards. Most religions just codify the most primitive misunderstandings of the mind. They actively prevent spiritual growth.

  4. Who is "us"? Why draw the line there and not at you vs any other possible instance of consciousness. Consciousness seems to correspond to states of my brain, so it's natural to assume that other brains have corresponding consciousness. Also consciousness seems to be about whatever information is present or processed in a location. So I'd assume that places in which information is condensed might produce consciousness.
