I would add blinding rage, but that's a good list.

@vinniewedge 1. Your excuse doesn't work, because slaves aren't told to obey to escape disadvantages. They are told to sincerely subjugate themselves and honor their masters as they would Jesus Christ . I put that in bold anticipating your defense and you still chose to ignore it. 2. Do the commandments in the bible only apply at the time they are given? No. And you don't argue for that when it's a passage you like. When something is uncomfortable then it only applies at the time. 3. Was slavery good 2000 years ago? There is nothing in the bible condemning slavery, even cautiously. 4. The prophets and later Jesus and Paul condemned common practices constantly. Indeed the bible makes a point out of standing up for your beliefs even if they are extremely unpopular. To say that the authors of the bible had to support slavery, because it was popular, is downright insane.

No matter how clear it is, ot does undermine your credibility if you praise some watch in the same tone of voice in which you just stated your political observations.

Your choices are determined by prior causes. You describe pride, not compassion. What matters is how I act, not that it is me, who does it.

The opposite is the case. Compassion says nothing whatsoever about excusing evil actions or not fighting evil actors. Christian "love" is fully compatible with tolerating the worst suffering in innocents. You are commanded to "turn the other cheek" rather than to fight and slaves are commanded to obey their masters with sincerity of the same kind they would have towards Christ .

@vinniewedge Is that your way of admitting that the bible is morally abhorrent? Or is that your way of saying that you are as enthusiastically pro-slavery as the bible?
1
@vinniewedge You are better than than the bible. You are better than those ancient superstitions. You are better than the Rabbis, who codified the Torah in the Babylonian Exile and you are better than the early Christians, who codified the NT. You are under no obligation to defend any of this. You are always free to follow your heart and reject all of this vile nonsense. It is never too late.

You don't "give" compassion. Having compassion is not something that impoverishes you - to the contrary it can help you out of destructive thought patterns.

Has that guy reached out to Sam?

Do you write code? An IDE allows me to easily what part of the program is responsible for an error. I can then fix the problem. Does that mean the piece of code has to have free will?
