  1. "Guaranteed food" exists literally everywhere in the world. It's not hard to have enough housing when 1/4 of your population has fled the country.

  6.  @bryanholden1558  Famines in Africa have become way less common since in the 80ies and socialist governments as well. Of course people starve due to food shortages, but in communist countries people starve completely unncessarily due to mismanagement.

You have to be a completely calleous, cynical, inhumane person to think that's in any way like imprisoning your own population and shooting them when they're trying to leave. You simply cannot admit to yourself what a colossal failure the GDR was.
