  5. t rEEpEr There is lots of good lectures and material on this topic online. I've been through some when looking for information about neutron stars for my essay(there is very little information sadly). Simplified the star reaches a point in which the pressure of it's fusion is no longer capable of balancing out it's own gravity - because the atoms have become too large and protons repell eachother). So the star collapses under it's own mass. In a supernova this collapse is so intense that the pressure wave expands outwards (gets reflected) and accelerates the gases of the star outwards. Now this is very much simplified and to have an actual understanding of the processes, you shouldn't take it from me. ^^
