And even if, it's best to save the ones with the most knowledge, to rebuild faster. "why would they aknowledge anyone's authorithy" The same reason any authority is respected: competence, usefulness. If you want the sewage system to work again, it's best you keep the guys, who managed it, out of harms way. Same thing goes for whole countries.

As long as there are people, there's a civilization and with people, who can organize effectively, the civilization can be rebuild to it's former splendor quicker. I, for one, consult the engineer, who has maintained a machine for all his life, when the machine is broken. Not some random other guys. "Would you give away your family's food for a promise knowing how bad politicians are in keeping promises?" Politicians don't keep promises? Who then keeps promises? Knights? Counts? Dukes? Kings? Dictators? You seem to have some problem with democracy in general. Anyways... eventually, in this catastrophic scenario, you will come to group up with others and you will share resources and you will specialize. Then you will have new politicians, who make the same promises. Why not use existing structures instead of needlessly building things anew. Or do you propose they should also strip off their clothes and go through hardships until they have learned the craft of making jeans again?

If every leader was perfectly righteous and reasonable, an aristocracy would work as well. You remove people by not voting for them. It's as easy as that. That is true for the kings and dictators you seemingly favor, but not for politicians in a modern democracy. Have you ever heard about the separation of powers, checks and balances? Executive, judiciary and legislative, which control eachother. "Voting on the other parties won't do you any good because they are in this together." You can found new parties, you can make referenda... also wtf is your alternative? "Yes, I live in a country, where democracy slowly turns into tyranny and that does not mean that I have problem with democracy but the democracy is the problem itself, the whole system does not prevent misuses and corruption effectively." So it's better to start at tyranny in the first place? You've argued for more democracy so far, not against it.
