We don't even know whether there is any endogenous DMT influencing the nervous system at all and there's no known way for the body to produce enough to have subjective effects. The author of "The Spirit Molecule" freely speculated about DMT playing a role in the brain and ever since people have been deceived or confused into thinking that endogenous DMT contributes in the brain for sure. Taking DMT might well be helpful, just like learning skills and doing sports and meditation etc are helpful. But in the end the brain is falling apart on a molecular level.
