Yes, this report his horrible. He probably just downloaded some machine learning library and the reporter acts as if it's the second coming. The real challenge of autonomic driving is machine vision, which thousands of our brightest minds in academia and the industry are working on. This guy doesn't seem to have contributed anything.

Mate, he just installed a touch screen in a car with lane assist. If the robot uprising comes, it won't be because of that guy.
1
@Pologuy242 He probably did. And so did you and I. Turn on cruise control and lane assist. That's all what's shown in the video and we've been able to do this for thrity years.
1
@Rebassed No, we are nowhere near that. You'll know when it happens when you are being turned into computronium.
1
The report is just horrible. Do people really become reporters to act like naive ignorant children? Instead of sucking the dick of some guy, who installed a touch screen in his car, they could highlight one of the thousands of researchers in academia or the industry, who actually innovates in the field of machine vision.
1
To install touchscreens in cars?
1
What did he invent?
1
How to start a successful business: Download some machine learning library. Call media outlet with naive bullshit reporters. Done.
1
Imo he just turned on cc and lane control. His car is fitted with those already.
1
I turn on cruise control on the highway... I must be a genuis.
1
What project? There is nothing impressive in that video.
1
So you are more of a Baysian guy.
1
What in the world do you think Renault, Volvo, Google, Facebook, Tesla, etc are doing?
1
@user-ej7we6ph3l Lane assist is further ahead than Tesla's autonomous cars? XD
1
Do you take planes?
1
You are fucking dumb mate. Any company researching in this area at all is light years ahead of that guy. Turn on lane assist and adaptive cruise control and your car drives just as well as the one shown in the video.
1
What success?
1
Turning on cruise control on the highway: An evolution in autonomous driving according to Arven Tahtyan.
1
You are giving him a lot of credit. I think he just put a touchscreen in the car and turned on the adaptive cruise control and lane assist. Given the naivity and ignorance of the reporter, I doubt he even linked his cameras to the controls.
1
I think the touchscreen was just for show. What I see is the cc and lane control that the car already has.
1
@dylancoulbeck7483 >we only saw a portion of what he did, we don't know what happened behind the scenes Yeah lets just assume that behind the scenes the car knows karate and can breathe fire, but what they decided to show was driving straight ahead on the highway... >imagine in the next 10 years If he can turn on cruise control now perhaps he'll have learned how to use the automatic lights in ten years. In twenty years, perhaps he invents the wheel.
1
I think the hardest thing he did was to find a way to turn on cruise control with the touchscreen he installed.
1
All of the technology you see in the video already exists in stickshift cars. Turn on lane assist and adaptive cruise control and your car is just as autonomous as his one. As for autonomous cars in general, it would be better just to simulate the stickshift, otherwise you have a lot of unnecessary mechanical parts, that can break.
1
Discoveries like the ignorance and naivity of Bloomberg reporters? Discoveries like the button for cruise control?
1
That's all trivial and not at all the problem with autonomous driving. The problem with autonomous driving is machine vision. This guy reinventing cruise control (if he did indeed do anything= does not tackle that problem at all.
1
Or anything else than going straight on the highway...
1
What idea? Turning on lane assist?
1
What he demonstates was already possible thirty years ago. And indeed it is possible in the car he is using without any modifications. So all he had to do for the video was to turn on cruise control and lane assist.
1
@waipahu >the significance of him implementing artificial intelligence here Google "deep learning library". Anyone can "implement artificial intelligence" just like anyone can swing a sword or pull the strings on a guitar. That doesn't make you a great swordsman or musician though. What do you think Google, Tesla, Facebook, Volkswagen, Volvo, Renault, etc are doing anyways? They are all of course "implementing artificial intelligence". Only that they actually innovate rather than just turning on cruise control on the highway.
1
Yeah and I was the first person to use a wheel... Seriously, you should just spend the next decade reading and not writing a word in order to spare yourself any further embarrassment.
1
Since IQ is on a bell curve half of the population has an above average IQ.
1
Or Volvo or Google or Kia or Renault or Facebook...
1
Firstly this guy is in no way an innovator of autonomous driving or machine learning. Secondly by your idiotic reasoning nothing can deal with "unexpected events". I'd like to hear what you think an unexpected event is and why you think it could occur, given that you think there is no data on them.
