  5. Yeah what he said is just totally wrong. Imo it depends on how the air is sucked in and how much is reflected to where. In the extreme case the air is sucked in from two sides and all of it is reflected backwards by the umbrella: how then could the system fail to move? The fan on the boat should also work imo, depending on how it's set up.

  8. Before watching: I guess yeah, but you can't go any faster than without the sail. After watching: Yeah I don't really buy the explanation. Imo it depends on how exactly the air is sucked into the fan or leaf blower. If the air is sucked in from the sides as well as from the back and more of it is reflexted backwards than sucked in from behind, the entire system should move.
