It's hard to argue that the space of all possible futures should be modeled as discrete. And a subsets of those futures are the ones in which Top Hat Gentleman has a girlfriend. Each possible future has a probability of zero and the set of all futures in which Top Hat Gentleman has a girlfriend might still have a probability of zero, but not for the reason you gave.

  38. Not quite, it is more like identifying a five in something that vaguely resembles a five. Firstly the input was not "random data", but generated specifically to trick the network (it is always possible to make any sufficiently complex learner fail this way). Secondly superstition or pareidolia in humans is not a catastrophic failure, but a bias towards false positives. Moon craters and radio static does resemble other things and if we disregard them, we might have false negatives in other situations. False positives seem to have had a lower cost in our evolutionary history, which is why people tend to see patterns where there are none.

  39. Bullshit. Math IS the hardest subject, that's not the teacher's fault, but simply in the nature of the thing. You won't find a mathematician, who is not vastly above average intelligence and thinking about problems all the time.
