Also the name duct tape seems to have come into use after it was used on ducts, so I don't think it's settled that "duct tape" was originally a mispronunciation. Wikipedia has contradictory information on the history of duct tape, I think there is a lot of scholarly work to be done here to present a clearer picture of it's history.
