There us no "social logic of neoliberalism". You're creating a boogieman ozt of nowhere. Neoliberalism is a set of economics policies espoused by Thatcher and Reagan.

Google also uses geometry invented by the Greeks, but no one complains about them not believing in Olympian gods.

@JamesBongo People don't get depressed from being overworked. All of the people, I know, that are depressed are in objectively better situations than I.

@JamesBongo How many people do you think would consider all of their prayers answered if they were in the place of those Google employees? If happiness is just a matter of getting more and more stuff at less and less cost, pretty much everyone else should be absolutely miserable all the time.

@YatriTrivedi "Religious tools" isn't a thing. The kind of meditation that's talked about also has nothing religious to it, you're not communicating with any gods, you're not trying to achieve anything magical. To say that meditation of the mindfulness or zen or dzogchen kind requires some sort of religiosity is no more absurd than to say that one must believe in the Olympian gods to do geometry.

@FleurPillager Exploring your own momentary experience is nothing like trying to talk to a deity. Just bcs something comes to us from a religious tradition doesn't mean it's necessarily magical. Plenty of medieval clergymen wrote insightful stuff about philosophy and scientific matters.

@YatriTrivedi >the kind of meditation they are talking about I never said that there are no intrinsically religious kinds of meditation. But the vipassana, zen, dzogchen kind of practices that we are talking about are no more necessarily religious than Stoic reframings or later phenomenology are.

@YatriTrivedi Zen Buddhism is a religion, or part of it is a religion. But zen meditation isn't intrinsically religious. Tibetan Buddhism is really quite magical, but dzogchen meditation, if you take it for itself, isn't.
