  1. The religion people mean when they hear religion is a belief system around some form of deity, whose adherents perform some form of rituals together. That's what religion has meant throughout time. Even when the deity is "nature" or a "life force", that still counts. EDIT: The "gains" in Africa and Asia are births. Ideas are always faster than births. You can have a thousand children for all I care. It can take as little as one generation for all of them to become nonbelievers.

  2. @ReligionForBreakfast I agree. We can't act as though everyone's turned into strict empiricists, when they still hold religious believes outside of the established confessions.

  4. @ReligionForBreakfast Even if you could engineer a religion that does not encourage in group - out group thinking, you'd still have claims that have to be believed on insufficient evidence.
