People's obsession about "addiction" is itself worse than any drug addiction.

Bingo. It's like persuading the pope to become an atheist.

Modern version of the inquisition.

No, it doesn't. Lots and lots of drugs that were uniquely owned by pharma companies have been made illegal. Pharma companies companies have been screwed by anti drug laws more than anyone else. It's just that you can't get out of your simplistic populist mindset. Drugs are illegal, because a majority of people deeply believes anti-drug propaganda - the media and the public got each other in a frenzy over drugs in the 20th century and now "drugs bad" is the norm. If pharma companies had any significant influence, then mdma, lsd, 6-APB, amphetamin, methamphetamine, synthetic dmt, etc would all be legal. But they're not.

Might as well tell the chief witch hunter that witches are actually pretty neat.

No. Drugs were made illegal, because the majority of the population thought that "drugs bad". And the media picked up on it and inflated it. Pharma companies could have made unfathomable amounts of money selling psychoactive substances during the 20th century. They're among the chief victims of prohibition.

@coreyanders5527 The DEA exists to fight all psychoactive substances, it was born out of the same craziness that persuaded you to think that heroin and meth "cause the downfall of societies".

They are not "toxic" at all and they're only "addictive", because they work. Brushing teeth, taking showers and using glasses are all addictive, because those things work.

@enterpassword3313 No, that would be absurdly inefficient. There's farmers, who can farm tons and tons of poppies. You do your job and the farmers do theirs and together you're more productive.

@Allpurple_reign Alcohol: men.

What's public health? Health is something that pertains to an individual relative to it's population.
1
That's complete bullshit. "Big pharma" has nothing to do with most psychoactive drugs being illegal. "Big pharma" could have made gigantic amounts of money during the last century selling psychoactive substances. It's the general plublic and the media that got paranoid about drugs being generally bad.
