  1. 1) He tried to slow down the horses. 2) He sat on the left. 3) He showed them how to exist safely and they still faceplanted. So how would that have gone any better if they exited first.

  2.  @Mike--Oxmall  Firstly he wanted to catch the horses. Secondly if they wanted to get off, it would still have been best for him to go first so he can show them how to do it without faceplanting.
