Lol, "true" fishermen really care about the fish, eh? I suppose 1% of fishermen are "true" fishermen. Anyways no one is forcing you to kill fish in the first place.

@RecaneYala Eating meat is killing them for your enjoyment and nothing more.
2
That's good, but you could go further and don't eat any animals.

@desertrainfrog1691 What exactly is your point? Slaughterhouses should be even worse?
1
@wangnagene I can't be entirely sure whether anyone but me has a conscious experience, but it's way more plausible that they do.
1
@charlesepperly1526 No, you don't. Quit making exuses.

@skullmaister >Fish do not feel pain the same way humans do since they're nervous systems arent as evolved and complex What kind of idiotic argument is that? There is absolutely no reason to assume that pain is felt less in a less complex nervous system. And "more evolved" doesn't exist. Fish are just as evolved as everything else. And fish aren't even a closed group of organisms. It's a nebulous collective with inconsistent rules of membership. In general the idea that you have anything to say on the conscious experience of fish, because you're a marine biologist is ridiculous. You're literally just making the most absurd excuses to torture other beings.

@skullmaister Sharks, nineyes and piranhas all have different nervous systems, they're not one closed group of organisms based on any important criterium. It's just stuff that swims in the sea with a spine that's not a reptile or a mammal. What part of your brain do you think creates consciousness and why do you think certain parts of it cannot?

Hunting itself is cruel. There's hundreds of thousands of people doing great without eating any animals.
1
Literally hundreds of thousands do care.

@mhv5295 If preventing horrible suffering of defenseless beings is not my business, I don't know what could possibly be my business. If that's not worth doing, nothing is.

@outdoorsanimalsandmusic3014 >Sounds like fishing is a little too manly for you. Lol In what world is cruelty, selfishness and stupidity manly? Most moral philosophers, activists, thought leaders, etc are men. I don't think that me being a man makes it harder for me to empathize with others or to act consistently. In fact I often remind my female friends to take the perspective of others around them. Of the spiders they are afraid of for example.

@outdoorsanimalsandmusic3014 By that argument you should kill all of the deer, not just a few for fun making sure there's the same number next year. Fish don't die worse in the wild than in a net and if you wanted to commit mass euthanasia that would look completely different than commercial fishing. But yes, it's important to think about wild animal suffering. Hard to intervene, but the earlier we get ideas, the better.
1
@outdoorsanimalsandmusic3014 Yeah, so shouldn't it be your job to be less like the wild.
1
Your thanking helps only to maintain your cruel behavior. You don't need to eat fish.
1
@jhienja8678 >its natural reason for eating something All evil things are natural. That's precisely why they're a problem in the first place. Cruelty and greed and hatred and your lack of compassion, they're all natural.
1
@pandemicphilly60 I don't really a see a reason why insects shouldn't. From what I can tell consciousness correlates with behavior.
