Why can't it be a pet? It IS a pet currently. It was raised by humans and now hangs around at their house. It's like a house cat, just bigger. Also not being afraid doesn't always aid you. My cats sometimes play rough, though I'm never afraid of them in the slightest, and I wouldn't want to be near when a lion behaves similarly.
