  2. You have to learn how to stand before you can learn how to play football. What I would do is stress from the start that maths is about acquiring skills , not just knowledge.

  6. I think we don't provide enough room for maths and we don't go into it with the right mindset. It should be made clear to the pupils that they are supposed to obtain certain skills , not just relay information. It's like a language, where you should get fluent.

  7. I love maths until the homework comes online, at which point all other fields of inquiry become immediately more enticing. I've spend a whole night researching the attributes of metals - damn procrastination...

  9. It's not hard, it's complicated. The systems we have devised to look at all of these problems are as simple as they can be. That's what allows us to look at these very complicated problems in the first place.

  11. That's not the case at all. In school, you have a historical / functional approach, so it's always clear why you are learning something, what the advantages are, etc.
