"Choosing not to follow..." is just another impulse.
19
"He learns to control himself" is on a higher level of abstraction. On a lower level it's total nonsense, just like free will.
3
How can I cause the most suffering with my diet?
3
@FSandberg Breathing in deeply and then "letting go" is hyperventilation. And it doesn't build up oxygen. That's why divers don't do it.
3
@nothinghappenedintiananmen5136 Why "humanity"? Why should a bigger, stronger person with more social status care about you? Why shouldn't you be bullied and enslaved?
2
There is no difference between your belief and the belief in "total freedom". It's just that your humunculus has more of an autopilot.
2
So you are fostering a feeling of superiority for achieving precisely nothing - but holding on to a childish misconception.
2
You clearly understood nothing.
2
You clearly have never even attempted to pay attention to conscious experience.
2
I don't do that when meditating and I see no reason to.
2
So you just failed at low IQ bottom tier philosophy.
2
@byronjones280 His channel has "anprim" in the name. Just because you're using a meme format or joking doesn't mean you are against what you're saying. It is possible to express your own opinion in a funny way.
2
You clearly have zero idea of what you are talking about. The pace isn't important, what's important is that you breathe in more than out. Even Wim himself says that. As for how you breath, that matters only to how comfortable it is. Oh and hyperventilation is the entire point. The breathing method is hyperventilation followed by hypoventilation.
2
Hyperventilation is the entire point. How fast you do it exactly shouldn't make much of a difference.
2
@aleenaprasannan2146 You rather murder other sentient creatures than eating a pill? You're a million times worse than any "giant pharma company".
2
So "free will" is randomness. A fair dice has a maximum of free will.
2
It does, though. In absence of the belief in free will, you are less affected by shame and hatred and it becomes easier to do the right thing.
2
I did the same bathroom push up things, but only before showers and with over ten push ups.
1
I mean eventually you should feel a tingling or pass out.
1
You breathe through the mouth when you are exchausted or your nose is clogged up. Otherwise the nose. Shouldn't happen immediately.
1
The problem is that you will probably eat yourself fat again afterwards and then you'll have to fast again. It's better just to eat apropriately permanently.
1
It's not a "battle of industries" for the animals.
1
"Free will" is as far from consciousness as any concept could possibly be. It is nonsense, consciousness is undeniable.
1
@catdadd6808 Most people's health has nothing to do with their diets.
1
Those noobs and their lack of acceptance for my infinite regress of agency!
1
"The planet" doesn't care. There is no such thing as detrimental "to the planet". You are harming the cows you are eating.
1
@petram8050 No, you're soft. You let your whims and comfort totally eclipse all ethics. You're weak, you're undisciplined, you're unprincipled, you're selfish, you're lazy. You kill for a fleeting, insignificant pleasure, because it's easy.
1
Can't afford to murder innocent beings.
1
@axnoro No. You're parroting garbage nonsense in order to justify abusing animals.
1
You clearly never payed attention to your experience. There is no such thing as "I" that decides. There is thoughts appearing. In your case a pain in the guts and the desire to roll my eyes.
1
What Wim is doing is hyperventilating. Jesus Christ, you people are completely clueless.
1
As long as you're getting essential nutrients, the specifics of what you eat are pretty much irrelevant. People, who think that everything in their life is due to their diet, are delusional.
1
You guys are delusional and desperate to find excuses to abuse animals.
1
That's precisely the naive stance argued against in the video. Also see what Robert Sapolsky had to say on this notion.
1
@pamesman You clearly haven't payed attention to your experience for even a moment in your life.
1
No, we wouldn't. We could have a hundred times more people than now all eating exclusively beef and there would still be plenty of space on the planet. Such considerations shouldn't even play a role when it comes to eating meat. It's like arguing about slavery and talking about economics.
1
There is no experience of free will either, though.
1
You sound like someone, who has never had any of his ideas questioned and actively avoids thinking too much. Did you even watch the video?
1
Buddha could hit an enemy combatant in the left eye from ten kilometers away.
1
In that case you might as well pray to Quetzalcoatl. You are really underselling the breathing method here. It's not pure quackery and will make almost everyone feel more energized afterwards.
1
That's placebo.
1
You are so dumb, it takes my breath away. Did you even watch the video? Or watch or read anything informative in all your life?
1
You confuse accountability with hatred and sadism. The subroutines in my programs have responsibilities, but I don't whip them if they fail. I debug them.
1
The breathing method IS hyperventilation. Look at the Wikipedia article for hyperventilation.
1
@leafwind2822 That's a totally baseless claim. People lived as hunter gatherers in very different climatic conditions, some of them eating almost exclusively plants or animals all the time.
1
I think you are confusing morality with sadism. Decisions are important - what's not there is the "I" that decides.
1
Wim Hof is hyperventilating. "Fully in, let it go" - that's hyperventilation. And hyperventilation followed by hypoventilation is the entire point.
1
Why add "personal"?
1
@wreagfe People ate all kinds of different diets as hunter gatherers. Some almost exclusively plants, others almost exclusively animals. You're looking for excuses to hurt animals.
1
My comment is proof of married bachelors.
