  13. Evolution is the diversification of a species. A billion years ago you might have recongized the ancestors of all vertebrates as one species. As for "adding new information", I don't know where you are getting that from. Do you mean an increase of the size of a genome? Single celled animals don't necessarily have smaller genomes and a genome can increase in size.
