John Counts"why do pro gay marriage liberals always bring race into this argument?" Well it's the next best thing. Also all the old arguments from 50 years ago come back. It's almost like a dramatic reading of them, just with "homosexual" in the place of "black" or "interracial".

John Counts People can be opposed to interracial marriage without having animosity against black people. There are a lot of people with that stance. Don't confuse it with hate or discrimination. Sometimes superstition has the same effects as hate and leads to discrimination.
12
John Counts "all you have to do is scream "racism" against the person who doesn't agree with you." So you are unwilling to see the parallels because you perceive that liberals scream "racism" a lot? Now that's lazy and dishonest. "If your argument was valid, why are there so many African Americans who don't agree with gay marriage?" Why are there Jews against gay marriage? They were in the extermination camps together. So why is it not hateful or inherently discriminating to discriminate against homosexuals and withhold marriage from them? Because it kind of seems like you think it IS discrimination when you withhold interracial couples marriage.
12
John Counts Well they can't get married in many places. The historical persecution of homosexuals is no less severe than the ones of black people. Also how is it discriminatory or hateful to prohibit interracial marriage, but not marriage between homosexuals? I find the argument from racists actually more compelling - the "mixing of the races" affected the whole country in a way. There is two different issues in gay marriages. One of discrimination: Should gay partnerships have equal legal standing to heterosexual ones? And one of segregation: Should they be called the same? I would say yes to both. Where has segregation done any good?
11
John Counts "Do you believe marriage is a union of a man and a woman" I spoke about that. That's the question whether you want segregation in this regard. "or do you believe people are equal under the law?" That's not two choices. They can be equal, but have legal partnerships, which are called differently. "This is why I have no tolerance for liberals who bring race into the equation." There is a reason, why the ones, who oppose discrimination have to come up with racism or the Third Reich all the time. When you appeal to suffering and compassion, noone cares - as soon as you make a comparison to evils of the past, people do care. I don't need reference to occurrences in the past to argue against the notion that discrimination against gay couples is not necessarily discriminative. I merely wanted to show you, how you sound to me.

John Counts "what the hell does gay marriage have to do with racist attitudes from 100 years ago?" Rather racist attitudes of 60 years ago. Look at the arguments against interracial marriage from then, many are used exactly the same way against gay marriage. "Gays aren't being segregated against." Noone can be segregated against. Both groups are segregated. You can be discriminated against. "no job or housing discrimination, NOTHING" It is legal (or was legal until recently) to withhold service to homosexuals having a marriage. "Some people just plain don't agree with gay marriage. Its like accusing someone of racism if they prefer Picasso over Monet, or Bach over Mozart" Me listening to Tech Nine does not mean I don't "agree" with others listening to Lil Wayne. Me enjoying Manowar does not mean that I want to keep others from listening to Halloween. Also it still does not seem to me like you thought opposition to interracial marriage should not be confused with hatred or discrimination. "Don't confuse it with hate, or discrimination." I would much like an explanation of this.

John Counts So what? What's that to do with the issue. You're constantly going back to your rants about "liberals". I'm not for homosexual partnerships having the same name as others partnerships, because I'm liberal or progressive. No, I'm for that because I'm egalitarian and pragmatic. We could have tons and tons of name for different people having partnerships: People with glasses having "lens unions" and dwarfs having "gnome unions" and blacks having "cacao unions" and Star Wars fans having "galactic unions" and so on. But historically segregation has overwhelmingly shown itself to be harmful.
5
John Counts Exactly, you didn't. That's my problem. You say that it's not discrimination to oppose gay marriage. Is the same true for interracial marriage? You got so upset about the whole thing, but never addressed this simple point.
4
John Counts ??? Is that supposed to be the answer? Then it must be that you DO consider the opposition to interracial marriage discrimination, but not the opposition to gay marriage. How is that consistent? "People may not agree with gay marriage because of their religious beliefs or the way they were raised." Is that supposed to be a defense?! Now you took that big of an offense to the comparison with racism and now you use the exact arguments of racists sixty years ago: Their deeply held religious beliefs. "Just because someone doesn't agree with gay marriage doesn't make them racist." How could it make them racist?! If anything, it makes them homophobic. You seem to think that racism is the only kind of discrimination that counts. And that's exactly why people bring it up. Because of people like you.
4
John Counts Is that now the answer to my question or not? Have I interpreted your cryptic evasive language the right way or not? You have not spend any attention on what I wrote last and you are doing it again: you think that the ONLY kind of discrimination that matters is racism. You worry only about being called racist, even if you are not. You are absolutely blind to see what others write when even just this word comes up. You are indifferent towards humans and their problem, to segregation and to discrimination as long as you are looking good.
4
John Counts "That's not the same thing as gay marriage." Yeah you're almost there. My question was further: why? "Yes, there are some gay people who don't agree with gay marriage too!" Do you think that surprises me? There are women, who are against equal rights for women. Against them voting, having jobs and some wish for a patriarchal society altogether. Gay people not wanting to get married (and not wanting others to) is to be expected.
4
John Counts What means understand? It's quite easy to understand. You said it was not necessarily discrimination. And I can 'understand' that. What I don't understand is why you don't say the same thing about people, who believe that marriage is between two people of the same ethnicity.
3
John Counts "So acting like I must be racist" Are you unable to comprehend written text? No matter what I write, all you hear is accusations of racism. I have no idea how you always get back to this. Why can't you just answer my question?
3
april pamaran "Every one of us is either born a male or a female." No. There's people with XX genotype, but male phenotype. There is people with XY genotype, mostly male phenotype, but female mentality. There is hermaphrodites, there is people with XXX or XXY chromosomes. "Do I condemn his CHOICE to be a homosexual? YES." Why? Who gets harmed by it? " I choose God's path." Why does god want you to live in sexual repression? Why does god want to divide loving couples? Why would anyone side with such a god? "Homosexuality is going against God's design of Adam and Eve." Homosexuality is nowhere mentioned in the second creation story.
2
John Counts That's no explanation. Also why are you insulting me?
2
John Counts"you don't let the interracial marriage or ethnic background thing go" Because you keep dodging a very simple question. I thought we should try to understand things. I'm trying to understand you.
