The government is infinitely more powerful than any corporation. It also has a military and police force to directly impose it's will. Are some corporations successfully advocating their own interests? Yes. But they still get pushed around the government.

@sirsecular1277 It is actually possible to test something without being forced to do so by the government... Indeed that's how the vast majority of testing and certification in the world is done. Not saying that regulations for the production of drugs is not a good idea, but even without such regulations, drug companies would still go for certificates of quality.

@robertojasso1866 If Americans are a "nation of thieves and murderers", I wonder what that makes everyone else. Ironically Chomsky's political bias is deeply Euro-centric. I don't see anyone claim that the Maori are murderers and thieves, while they definitely killed and ate the people, who formerly inhabited New Zealand.
