  5. How bad Saddam's regime was can hardly be overstated. It is only partisan politics that let's people suppress compassion for it's victims. If the West had not intervened against it, everyone would blame them for supporting a tyrant and doing nothing in face of genocide and torture.

Let's say I disagree with Roger Penrose. If I just went through the comment section posting snarky one-liners, people would think that everyone disagreeing with Roger is an idiot. If I instead said something like "Interesting, but I agree more with Sean Carrol's views on this", I might win some people over.
