@JohnnyLandscape The only think you're right about is that you don't know anything. You don't acutally think about what someone is saying, just the aesthetics of it. DeMaistre doesn't even know what he's saying himself, he just doesn't like social progress, foreigners and in general people having compassion for others outside of their closest family. Instead of caring about human well being, he wants us to preserve vaguely defined patterns of tradition or psychology, that are amoral at best and more often actively harmful. He believes in magic, he thinks humans have some "essence" they are tethered to and that it is anti-thetical to any attempt to improve the lives of people and fundamentally make society better. The entirety of human history contradicts him.
