  1. wokeness is a pendulum in the same way that the graph y = x + 2sin(x) is a pendulum. Any "swing backs" are short-lived and fail to win back all of the gains that left made during their last push. they go 20 steps forward and at most 5 back. I find Moldbug's explanation for this the most convincing. As technology improves the need for social rules lessens (e.g. contraceptives changing standards of sexual behaviour). Conservatives are people psychologically predisposed to upholding social rules while "progressives" are people psychologically predisposed to relaxing or violating social rules. A typical conservative today is less conservative than a conservative 70 years ago who is less conservative than a conservative 140 years ago etc. So the "progressives" are going to keep winning until they relax the social rules needed for societal function so much that they break something that cannot be fully compensated for. The other core of "progressives" is that they worship groups that they believe to be disadvantaged like african-descent people and trans-identified people. This also acts like a ratchet. They just continue worshipping these people more and more and ever-more fringe, unhealthy minorities as shown by the push to accept "minor-attracted persons" aka pdf-files.

" This isn't a fair characterisation from what I have seen. They're denying that person membership to the group that person identifies with on the grounds of perceived disloyalty and betrayal of that group. e.g. They will say that Larry Elder isn't really black because they claim that he is betraying black people and effectively siding with the oppression of black people. This reasoning would be valid if the premises were true , e.g. it would be fair to call someone who betrayed their homeland to spy for another country not a true member of their homeland anymore.

We can see this from the capitulation of military leadership to DEI bureaucracy and ideology. and like you said the military isn't passionate enough for young officers to organise a junta, carry out a coup and depose the corrupt internal enemies in positions of power .
