According to this model in liberal countries, the birthrates of conservatives should have climbed over time as they become more marginalised in culture while the birthrates of liberals stay steady. But infact what we see in liberal countries is that the birth rates of conservatives and liberals both go down over time but the birth rates of conservatives have gone down less. Furthermore, this model would predict that within conservative countries, conservatives would not have greater fertility than liberals, but I expect that even in countries like india , muslim countries and east asia, religious conservatives have higher fertility than liberals. I don't know this for sure but I've seen indications this is the case. I think the more plausible model is that conservatives (whether they live in more liberal or more conservative countries) are more resistant to the modern , urban sterility mind-virus effects that plague liberals because conservatives have stronger instincts for family and procreation and threats. Sterility also seems to plague city-dwellers the most and conservatives disproportionately live in rural and suburban areas.

@TomFranklinX yeah conservatives will have a higher suburban : urban ratio than liberals. I still doubt that this is all the cause. Environment probably causes people to be more likely to adopt a certain outlook and people with a certain outlook will be caused by that outlook to seek out those environments.

@highmolecularweightRDX actually even in liberal countries like america, most conservatives live in non-rural areas. only 18% of the US population lives in rural areas. rural living accounts for some of the fertility gap between conservatives and liberals but far from all of it. also, even within conservative countries, liberals will be a much higher % of the population in non-rural areas than in rural areas.

@highmolecularweightRDX they're doing quite a lot better. as of 2018, conservative women ages 30-44 had 2.4 kids each on average according to the institute of family studies. while liberal women age 30-44 only had 1.5 .
