Most gheys would also be outraged and start to take action if they found out that someone they knew did not want their children to be around gheys. Gheys are a threat since they are likely to spread the pathogen that causes their illness to children. This is why people become more homophobic after becoming parents. Given that gheys are a threat that might spread their low fertility illness to children, it makes sense to keep gheys away from children and pregnant women. If gheys accepted that then malcolm would be correct that they are not our enemy but since gheys oppose that they are infact an enemy, albeit a comparatively low-priority one. this is a minor conflict and can be shelved until later.

  2. 39:00 "communities that are more righteous and do things more for other people will attract more people" consider Christianity and Islam in the west. Both help the poor as a central activity , but people are converting to islam more in the west because it seems stronger because its power is growing because its population is growing due to birth rates and its population is more intolerant and firm i.e. less permissive and more willing to deal out shame. Atheists on the other hand give the least to charity yet atheism is the dominant ideology in the west (for now) I don't think just helping others is the usual model for how religions/ideologies become dominant. What tends to happen is that most people will end up converting/following the ideology that has the most power or is rising in power, and power is generally held by the elites. So if you want your religion/ideology to become the new dominant religion in that region you to convert the king or the intelligentsia. You could help a bunch of plebs with your religion/ideology but if you don't appeal to elites it probably won't ever become dominant. Elites seem to like ideologies/religions that seem to make sense and more importantly are utopian and give a sense of empowerment . This is why communism is so much more popular among elites than behavioural genetics.

  4. "religious communities that use shame are going to suffer in the age of the internet" Hasn't happened so far to orthodox or ultra-orthodox jews. Seems to me that religions that are more permissive have higher bleed rates and lower fertility. shame also helps your religion remain more closed off and less infected by other cultures like urban monoculture. islam for example. Other factors I think are probably even more important though like ethnic tensions or sense of threat vs complscency and security
