  2. phase 1 is staying, which runs onto the WCML at Handsacre. This means Manchester will be 1 hr 30 mins from London. That is not slow. It will not be just a London to Birmingham line at all. Liverpool, Glasgow and Manchester will all have services run on phase 1.
