  1. phase 1 :- London Euston to WCML at Lichfield, with a branch to Birmingham; phase 2a :- Lichfield to Crewe; phase 2b :- i) branch at Birmingham to the ECML at York with branch to Leeds. i ii) Crewe to WCML at Wigan with a branch to Manchester. Sunak has said that only phase 1 will be built. That is Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester and Glasgow will be on HS2 after phase 1 completion.

  2. phase 1 is from Old Oak Common to the WCML at Lichfield, with a branch to Birmingham. After phase 1 is completed the times from London to Manchester is 1 hr 30 mins. Is that slow! Then as the Liverpool, Glasgow, B'ham and Manchester trains are off the WCML and onto HS2 there is more capacity on the WCML. Why all the whingeing?
