The predecessor to the F-104 was the brilliant Heinkel bubblecar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=009uDuK_weE&t=1s Heinkel stopped making the car in Germany shifting production to Ireland, because the factory was being cleared to assemble the F-104 Starfighter. Bubblecar makers became jet fighter makers.
