Liverpool is not just about football. Or not just about its people. It has an amazing history.

@28pbtkh23 HMGs government destroyed Liverpool's economy. It was a deliberate act. The city and port suffered from character assassination by the London media. In the 1970s: ▪ Liverpool opened a rapid-transit underground rail network, with room to greatly expand very quickly - these create economic growth and give kudos. ▪ The city centre had large parts rebuilt with a new tower erected. ▪ New hotels were being built. ▪ New office blocks being built. ▪ Motorways were being run into the city from many angles and outer city loop motorways being built. ▪ A new Mersey road tunnel was opened in 1971. ▪ A new bank was setup in the city. ▪ In 1972 massive container dock was built with the world's largest locks. The first container ships docked in the UK in 1966 - such a rapid response. ▪ New car factories were set up in the city region. Liverpool prepared for the future for sure. But this deep water port mixed economy in a city geographically central to the UK, economically collapsed. Why?

@paarker You have been reading un-funny Daily Mail jokes haven't you?

@geraldwalsh6489 wrote: ",at one stage, Dublin was referred to as the second city of the British empire" Correct.

Discrimination against Liverpudlians in the rest of the UK is total. They know what it feels like to be black.

No, Liverpool is the most referred to as the the second city of the empire. Liverpool is/was a trading city - commerce. The world's first world city, in that it was the first city ever to trade with all of the world. Glasgow is based on heavy industry.
2
The Liverpool City Region, an entity with its metro-mayor, has about 2 million people.
2
@chesterdonnelly1212 Scouser is name for working class Liverpudlians. St.Helens, Sefton, Halton, etc, are all inside the Liverpool City Region. I never made it up. They sit with the metro-mayor running the place.
2
@chesterdonnelly1212 Wallasey ceased to be a town. Birkenhead and Wallasey have the same council, Wirral Council, which is under the Liverpool City Region. You might get it one day.
2
A Scouser, is a working class Liverpolitan. Few middle class and middle class origin in the city like being called a Scouser.
2
Bitter and twisted I see.
2
@seantuaima Ad hom attack. You lost it.
2
@seantuaima Still bitter and twisted.
2
Shall we take any notice of you, as you cannot even spell Scouse.
2
But Liverpool has mile after mile of brilliant areas. You do not live in one of them of course.
2
Nope. It shipped slaves from West Africa to the Americas. They were shippers, not slave owners.

@DragosLazarescu "capital of slave trade "

The Beatles, one of the most famous rocks bands of all time? The most famous.

They are?
1
@StuartAnderson-xl4bo Most of the world was unknown to Rome.
1
@chesterdonnelly1212 Again.... Scouser is name for working class Liverpudlians. The whole region is in area called The Liverpool City Region. You may get it one day.
1
@chesterdonnelly1212 Wallasey is inside the Liverpool City Region. Wallasey is within the socio-economic sphere of Liverpool city. It is basically a suburb of Liverpool served by a road tunnel and a metro to the city and its centre. Parts of Wallasey are closer to Liverpool's city centre than most of Liverpool city itself.

@Roy Weatherhead ...and?
1
@gary1642 I was backing you up.
1
The vid got it right. A mixture of origins. The Irish bit is over emphasized far too much. Glasgow is an "Irish" city.
1
"Liverpool is different from the rest of England because the Rest of England is capable of leaving the house without stealing something" You have been reading the Daily Mail again haven't you?

@exentr Apologies. But it is Labskaus in German.

Liverpool's crime rate is less than other major cities. Number is the index: 1. Coventry: 63.4 2 Birmingham: 63.0 3. Manchester: 55.0 4 London: 53.9 5 Nottingham: 50.5 6. Liverpool: 47.9 7. Glasgow: 45.5 8 Belfast: 45.2
1
Not really. The accent is unique. North Wales has a tinge of Liverpool's accent for sure.
1
All this football stuff! Liverpool is far more than football.
1
You made that up.
1
Nope. Liverpool was.
1
@andrewheaney6858 Liverpool was/is a commercial city trading with all of the world. Liverpool touched everywhere. Glasgow was/is primarily an industrial city. Very different.
