  2.  @callsigndd9ls897  Not really. Suez canal was built and the Manchester Ship Canal was near complete which engineering-wise beat the Kiel.

  3.  @callsigndd9ls897  It is the engineering that is in focus. The Kiel Canal was nothing special. Nothing that was ground breaking. In engineering the Manchester Ship Canal was far more advanced. It had swing bridges for canals crossing it. The River Mersey was diverted to run through the canal then out of it to supply it with water, as was the River Weaver.
