Richard, you forgot about taxing the values of land, eliminating taxes on the buildings (the capital).
The values of land are created by community economic activity, that crystallises into land values. The value is not created by the landowner. The value is not manna from heaven. In short, it is commonly created wealth. It is wealth we all created.
Yet this commonly created wealth is appropriated by private individuals and concerns. Hence why many landowners (the unproductive) are super rich, while the productive penalised.
Reclaiming this commonly created value to pay for common services makes pure sense. The land levy can be increased to eliminate personal income tax, and also eliminating many other taxes, like Council Tax.
Land Value Tax:
- cannot be avoided as land's location is known to the inch;
- land cannot be taken offshore;
- it is cheap to collect,
- eliminating bailiffs, tax snoopers, etc, giving stress to people;
