  1. Tully on page. 405 was wrong. The Japanese went on quality for sure, but they also had quantity.

  2. Midway was touch and go for both sides. Small matters like the decks of Japanese carriers filled with planes leaving no space to take off in an emergency. Japanese hangar decks not being compartmentalised enabling fires to run the length of the carrier, and fuel lines not designed for ruptures, etc, also played a role in tipping it against the Japanese. When a wave of planes took off the crews of a Japanese carrier would wave them all off. The British and American crews did no such things, being busy doing their jobs for the next wave or planes coming back. It all added up.
