  1. Liverpool has been waiting over 40 years to have its metro finished. Leeds which only has buses is still waiting for a tram network. These cities have suffered. So HMG said to them, here is another fast line to London.

  3. Sunak is seriously considering cancelling Phase 2 HS2. After Phase 1, Liverpool, Birmingham, Glasgow and Manchester will have far faster trains to London. Manchester to London to be 1 hour 30 mins. What are they whingeing about?

  4. The cities on the east coast have two mainlines, ECML and MML. These need ugrading to 140mph. The cities on the west coast have only the one mainline, the WCML. Having HS2 from Old Oak Common to Lichfield evens it up. The rest of it, phase 2, is economically not worth it. NPR Liverpool to Hull is worth it.

  5. The expensive tunnelling is green tunnels. Tunneling under cities is cheap as no land grabs.
