Nice try. But.....
A Political Railway
HS2 is a political railway. A flawed design originally to serve only four chosen cities directly, FAST. These cities were chosen by the Tory government to be some sort of regional economic centres, although at the time one city clearly was not. Instead of allowing the free market to decide which cities are economic centres, they were engineering it. The other cities, not a part of the chosen four, will have a half-cocked cut down service, with bits running on and off HS2 tracks. When HS2 trains run on existing tracks they run slower, as they do not tilt.
Capacity fails
At first they boasted speed. Then after valid castigation by the media, they changed stance and said it was for capacity. From day one all slots on HS2 are full. So much that the Liverpool to Birmingham and Chester to London services are omitted from HS2 entirely. HS2 was supposed to take all inter-city services. About capacity? Sure! Pull the other one. If it was about capacity, it would have been 4-track from London to the vital Crewe junction. But no such thing, it is two track. You couldn't make this up.
No link to the Continent
One of HS2s prime points was that it would connect British regional cities directly to the Continent. The Continental link was omitted. No kidding.
No link to major airport Heathrow
The link to Heathrow was dropped. The UKs major airport, yet two provincial airports get HS2 stations. NO kidding.
Liverpool City Region omitted
The whole of the Liverpool City Region, of over two million people, was omitted from a direct service, with the centre being only 16 miles from a HS2 line, and the city region border one mile. No consideration was taken to relieve existing lines for the new large, additional, Post Panmax container terminal that has just opened. I doubt they knew of this massive privately funded port construction. If HMG want to encourage private investment they have to play their part, otherwise they will go elsewhere. Also, HMG is wanting to move freight onto rail.
No rail connection at Curzon St, Birmingham
Curzon St station is stand alone, that is there are no connection to other rail services from the station,. Only HS2 trains will use the station. After a fast ride from London, passengers will have to drag cases down streets (in the rain an cold) to other stations. No kidding.
No rail connection at Manchester airport
Manchester airport already has a rail station. It is not connected with the HS2 station at all being about a mile away, and also a way from the terminal, needing a bus. The HS2 station will be accessed from Birmingham or London, who have their own airports, as Manchester is too near already served by the existing station. It will be the least used station in the UK. No kidding.
Big bend slows down trains
High speed trains need straight tracks to keep speeds up - if new track is not straight it is not worth building. So in their wisdom HS2 does an S bend around Tatton slowing trains from over 200mph to about 100mph. It just so happened George Osborne's seat was Tatton. Osborne had a lot to do with the initial layout of HS2. So billions is spent to keep him in his political seat (he has since resigned). Then the track runs into a gold plated 7.5 mile dead end tunnel into Manchester, a provincial city not some mega city, into a station facing the wrong way. Manchester already has a straight direct line to the Crewe junction where it could pick up HS2, with little time penalty if uprated here and there.
Billions will be spent moving the northbound HS2 track over to Manchester, when entering the city via the Mersey corridor is more direct and cheaper and would also accommodate Liverpool accessing HS2. No kidding. Billions for one man - Osborne.
Birmingham airport station remote
The Birmingham airport HS2 station is not in the terminal, again it needs secondary transport to get to the plane. So you go fast to the airport then trundle all over to get to the plane. No kidding.
Just a taster. I could go on and on and on.....on

High Speed Rail In Spain - which is comprehensive. Spain has twice as much km of track per inhabitant as France and three times more than China and Japan. But... it is the least used, with passengers per km 15,500, against France at 58,300 and Japan at 101,500. A bit of a flop to say the least, when the local rail, which benefits most people, was dire needing urgently updating, they built this white elephant. Echoes of the UK, with crumbling local & regional rail.

Trump does not have to leave the White House. He can mount a coup by just staying, as there is mechanism to remove a sitting president. A TED lecture (on-line):
https://youtu.be/WZWRhLW7Y8w?t=451
There are more Red states than Blue, but Red states are low population. Each state can legally forward a president. If there is violence on the streets (Trump cares nothing about that), with organized large armed groups the Republican states may go along with him to avoid civil unrest, maybe even civil war. Then, knowing when the Democrats get back in they will have the laws changed. All in order to avoid civil war.
If the military get involved in evicting Trump, they are also getting involved in a coup. It is outside their remit. Trump is within the constitution by staying, and going the court route, then hijacking the presidency. Then if all Red states are for him he stays, as it goes by state, not total population.
