  1. The Rootes TS3 opposed piston diesel engine was made from 1954 until 1972. It powered a truck and was 3.5 litres. It was very economical. A TS4 was under R&D but Rootes was bought by Chrysler of the USA who dropped the engine not understanding it and also in order to sell their own existing engine range.

  3. Too late. EVs will make these engines obsolete, unless it is used as a generator in a hybrid.
