Comments by "John Burns" (@johnburns4017) on "American Reacts to WHY British Plugs and Outlets Are the BEST in the World.." video.
High draw appliances like cookers, shower, etc, usually have their own radial circuit. Ina ring each appliance is fused. The ring is a busbar.

@planaproject ▪The German schuko outlets and plugs are inferior. ▪You do not know which part of the receptacle is phase or which is neutral. ▪There is no marking on the Euro German outlets as to which is phase. ▪Electricians randomly pick a side which will be phase. ▪As for ground, it makes contact simultaneously with the other phase and neutral contacts in the receptacle as the plug is pushed in. In British type G plugs, the ground make contact first and last to break contact. ▪The plugs are not individually fused. ▪Dirt accumulates in the Schuko recess. Housewives squirt in cleaner to clean them. Oooops. A negative point. ▪The prongs are flimsy. ▪British pins are insulated so fingers cannot touch phase and neutral. ▪You cannot touch the earth connector on a socket in a British plug unlike in a Schuko. ▪The British sockets are switched. ▪The British system is polarised, as is the French, unlike the German.

@Dreadpirateflappy They claim the Schuko plug is better because they have not much of a clue.

@RighAlban I have never stood on one or or know anyone who has. Appears there is a lot of careless absent minded people on this vid.

the 110V is mainly that they use a transformer that the primary and secondary wiring are not connected. With the use of RCDs on 230v, using 110V is now unnecessary.

Max amps through a British plug is 13A. 13A on 240v gives 3,000 watts of power. 13A on 110v delivers 1,500 watts, half the power. So the kettle will heat slowly.

@Brissebrajan If you are an electrician with analysing abilities you will see the British Type G plug and socket is vastly superior to all others. Not an opinion it just is. Having non-polarized plugs is not a very bright idea.

@eddthirty4065 RCDs in the USA are set to 20mA is because they have 60Hz rather than 50hz. 30mA at 50Hz gives same cardiac protection. So those who think RCD protection in the USA is greater better look again.

@Totalplonker Best to have permanent appliances with high current draws on a dedicated circuit and also hard wired in, not on a socket circuit.
2
@pogglefishii6807 Cookers are not on rings! Rings are for sockets only. Cookers, hobs, and other heavy appliances, like a fixed heater, instant showers, etc, are hard wired in on radials.

@Brissebrajan Unphased electrical systems are silly. Look up why.
1
@Brissebrajan A phase, a negative (neutral) and a ground. You don't say!

Yes the 120V US system delivers half the power.
1
@EddsBoxOne They are rare because they take so long to boil.

▪️ 3kW of power on 120v draws 25 amps. ▪️ 3kW of power on 240v draws 12.5 amps. 120v draws twice the amps to deliver the same power. That means thicker and more expensive cables. It is the current that kills people.

I have never stood on one, and know no one who has.

1934 the fuse-less 15A round pin plug. Then the 1947 13A square pin fuse-in-plug Type G design, what we have now. The 1934 round pins are still legal being used in special applications.

introduced in 1947.

@ianday38 From 1947 new circuits and installations had to have the new plugs and sockets.

You can put a plus as seen in vid on cable if the moulded plug is defective. It will not invalidate the guarantee, as long as it is fitted correctly.

The low mentality of the responses is unbelievable. Most have focused on standing on a plug, not the brilliant design and plus points, as if this is an everyday occurrence to most of the population. I have never done that or know anyone who has.

Load balancing is not an issue. A ring is two cables going back to the breaker at the main panel. One cable for each leg of the ring. It is possible to have a bunch of heavy current appliances next to each other on one leg, overloading the cable on that leg. Very rare but possible. If the ring is wired so leg one goes to the first socket and leg two the second, leg one to the third in a round-robin fashion, the ring then is always balanced. If the ring is installed properly it will always be balanced.

Do you leave razors around the house as well?

Switches on sockets are not mandatory. They are available for special applications, like appliances plugged in with in inaccessible sockets. Most sockets have double pole switches.

@garywheble4534 There are plugs available with grips for old people. But most use the socket switch leaving the plug in.
