Carbon fibre flywheels were revealed over 30 years ago. Flywheels are clearly not new. They were used in buses in Austria/Switzerland in the 1950s - the flywheel is turned when buses run downhill, to take the bus uphill when running up and down the Alps. The technology could have been used in Liverpool's Merseyrail metro as the River Mersey rail tunnel has the steepest rail incline, up and down, in the UK. Charge the flywheel running down then power the train going up. But the now new Swiss electric-battery hybrids that reclaim kinetic energy on the downward run in the tunnel are used. Although not that efficient as they do not use supercapacitors, only batteries, to reclaim the kinetic energy.

Using inefficient pistons gets you nowhere.
