FACR TORNZ An electric motor has continuous power delivery. A 4-stroke piston engine has one explosion forcing down a cylinder every 2 revs of the crankshaft. The other three strokes are parasitical pumping losses meaning the crankshaft needs a heavy flywheel to force the piston back up. A piston engine is highly inefficient. The absence of back EMF in an electric motor on startup adds to the instant torque.

Avery-John EV's have 350 mile range and do that 350 miles cheaper than gasoline. They also have far fewer moving parts, etc, etc. They are the prime point, which went over your idiotic know-it-all head. Weight is not a big player in all this. Weight only matters in aircraft, or starting from stationary.

SLOBeachboy "200 pounds of gasoline will get you a hell of a lot further down the road than 200 pounds of batteries" That is not the case these days.

Avery-John You have to compare like with like. EVs do not have bulking and heavy engines, radiators, transmissions, etc. Compare the overall weight of both and the EV does very well. That is with the current heavy bodies and batteries - with improved batteries in the line. 166 gallons? Only trucks carry that load.

Avery-John Take into account the overall weight of the vehicle and gasoline does not come so good as you think. That is my point, and as I emphasised, that is not building bodies dedicated for EVs.

Avery-John Planes are very different. They become more efficient as they use the fuel and get lighter. Weight in a ship/boat is not much of a problem, and electric ferries are in operation and engineers are looking at batteries for cruise liners that say circle the Med. weight in a vehicle is also less of a problem as when the vehicle is moving the weight penalty is far less of a problem. My point, which I never put across well, was that the difference in efficiency in overall weight is not as great as your initial raw figures.

Avery-John You are over exaggerating the range of gasoline v EV in a wheeled vehicle. But that is now not an issue as some EVs have over 300 miles range.
