@richterman3962 Quality fully synthetic does not turn to sludge.

something1random23 Sludge will not occur with a quality fully synthetic oil. Take note of the vid please.

Billie Bob Norton III That is a legal issue not a technical one.

Kurtis Smith "I'm sticking to changing oil every 3,000 miles." Did you look at and understand the video?
3
Baxrok2 "I've never used anything but mid grade oils and filters." But sounds like nuts rattling in a can. ;)
2
Baxrok2 Do what you were doing for 170,000 miles...well I doubt it would reach 170,000 miles.. but at high mileage it would sound like ratting cans. If you otherwise you are fibbing or have no sense of vibration or hearing.
2
You have to wait a year.
2
You have poor comprehension, as you never got the points the vid was making.
1
Baxrok2 Based on my experience of cars over a longer period, you are telling fibs. ;) Out of interest, how long did you keep your cars from new?
1
You bought it new, out of the box?
1
Baxrok2 I do not believe you.
1
hand held garage Baxrok2 thinks you do not, and all will be fantastic using cheap and nasty stuff. Sure it will.
1
Baxrok2 "I have proven, to myself at least, that it is unnecessary." But not to the people with engineering acumen and experience of such matters. Happy New Year!

Overstepping change intervals using poor quality oil will mean a car will wear faster. Did you take note of the vid?

My car is a 20 year old Toyota Avensis and done 170,000 miles. I bought it new. It has had quality fully synthetic oil from new and the oil is changed once a year. I rarely went over 10K mile per year. Currently I use Shell Helix (the oil made from natural gas). I buy a 5 litre can of oil. The engine takes 4 litres. The oil level drops from the full mark to the bottom mark then it is time for the annual car check and oil change. So I really have no need to top up the oil (the engine is not burning excessive oil) , but I do throughout the year to introduce some fresh oil into the engine. So. the remaining one litre is used for top up in the year.

Great vid. So, the 120,000 mile test. Did all engines pass? Which engine was in the best condition (less wear) after 120,000 miles?
1
What was the wear rate? Some engines at 120,000 miles sound like nuts rattling in a can. Before fully synthetic oil came about cheap engines like Ford, GM, etc, at 120,000 miles sounded rough, while quality makes like Volvo, BMW and Merc sounded and felt far smoother and quieter. But all of them were smooth and quiet when new. Did a Ford (cheaper engines) still sound smooth and quiet at 120,000 miles?

????

Well those Toyotas did not use quality fully synthetics from new. Did you take note of the vid?

Yes, few oils sold are 100% synthetic.

@humansvd3269 Changing at 5K is not necessary when using the right oil & filter. Did you take note of the vid?
1
@humansvd3269 Fully synthetic to the latest API is high quality giving the best protection. Changing lower quality oil frequently means you still have lower quality oil inside still giving lesser protection.

Maybe you should take note of the vid.

@SalveMonesvol Things have moved on.

@dimmacommunication As long as it has the latest API rating.

My Toyota Avensis in 1997 was 9,000 mile oil change intervals.

Best to use fully synthetic at all times.
1
What chance?

High quality oil gives better protection - simple. You can change out low quality oil every week, but it will still be low quality.
1
Did you take note of the vid? The man drove 5,000 miles on poor quality oil then suffered wear. If he had 20,000 mile oil his car would be fine changed at 10K.
