  2. What they are doing has been well known for decades. Thinner cylinders are better for combustion. Also modulating ancillaries only at speeds to match engine output or temperatures is not new. Reducing what ancillaries take off the crank releases a fair amount of HP resulting in higher efficiencies. But putting it all together in one engine is new. Oil pumps take a lot of HP from the crank so modulating the pumps makes sense. But an electric oil pump? No one would dare. BMWs had modulating electric water pumps. Who disconnected the alternator when the foot is on the gas pedal, only generating electricity when decelerating?
