  1. I don't blame the Canadians for being firm. The British said they would honour an independent review of the San Juan Islands dispute between Seattle and Vancouver. The German in charge gave them to the USA - look at the cost of the Alabama Claims, also by the Germans. No one would ever give the San Juan Islands to the USA, as they block the entrance to Vancouver, while the approaches to Settle are not blocked.

  2. 1) The islands have been continuously occupied by British then Canadians from 1832. 2) No Americans have ever occupied the island. 3) A document says it is Canada's. 4) Another document says it is the USA's. Three out of four for Canada. Continuous occupation since 1832, knocking on for 200 years, puts the sovereignty in Canada's favour.
