  1. Liverpool is still waiting for its metro to be finished after over forty years. Leeds is still waiting for a tram network. So HMG said here is another fast line to London instead.

  2. What! There are three trains to from Manchester to London each hour! It takes just over 2 hours to London. After HS2 phase 1 is built trains to London will take 1 hour 30 minutes. Trains to Liverpool? They run on two lines. One via Warrington and one via Newton le Willows. Take your choice. The north of England does not need another fast line to London. It needs a very fast Liverpool to Hull line
