That's how most political prisoners were in USSR. There was an anecdote about it: three guys in the same cell ask each other what crime they committed, the first one answers: "I was arrested because I disagreed with policy of comrade Yershov..." The second goes: "and I am in jail for supporting comrade Yershov's policies"... They both look at the third one, who says: "and I am comrade Yershov himself". The punchline is that whoever you are, whatever you support, no matter what you do, sooner or later, they will come for you. Everyone was a hypocrite trying to guess the right thing to say and play pretend. Almost no people were ideological in USSR, the few who were actually into that were considered kooks by the general population who tried to wiggle their way outta everything.

Mum told me that adults were asking a "gotcha" question when she was a little kid: "what's the price of bread". Everybody knew the retail price as it was standartized with zero accounting of supply and demand (planned economy, hence constant deficits), but you were not SUPPOSED to answer the truth. The right response was "bread is priceless", as the same people who organized man-made famines later gaslighted people into blaming them for "not respecting bread" enough.

That's true, USSR never achieved communism... Thankfully. TBH, even the Spartans, despite being a monarchy, were closer, with actually abolishing money, but they made it by abusing massive amount of slaves and it eventually resulted in their collapse (failed to monetize their economy).

That's because you think the banana dictators are ideological. Castro was an opportunist who wanted power at any cost, communism was just what Guevara persuaded him to take in, it worked for all his goals: becoming a king and establishing a hereditary absolute monarchy of his royal family... Yeah.

Yes, and in the other corner we have retrogrades who think that money dependent on gold reserves or something is where it's at. Remember: anyone who tries to say that fiat money is a scam and new currency backed by gold/NFTs/rabbitskins will defeat the dollar and whatnot is a scammer and probably runs a financial pyramid, where the "tokens" are actually not backed by anything. We just had a huge ponzi scheme with jewelry certificates a few years ago. Unfortunately, old people fell for it. With digital economies, absolute majority of money doesn't physically exist but is backed with economy and the value that can, in the real world, be exchanged for goods, services and other money.

@muha0644 yes, after Stalin it was all about survival, as opposed to dying by millions for ideology during Stalin's tyranny. See, for most people, being able to EAT is more important than deranged fantasies of some genocidal psychopath in moscow. Don't get me wrong, all communists are evil and criminal. It's just that Stalin was the biggest mass murderer in history, with victims he killed in 1933 alone equating with ENTIRE Holocaust... So even communist party decided "that's too much even for us". To this day, the current war is a direct result of Stalinist ethnic cleansing campaigns that deported all non-white people out of Crimea to Siberia, and colonized Ukraine and Kazakhstan by installing white russian colonial settlers here.
